Designed for hurricane-prone regions

Pella patio doors with HurricaneShield® impact-resistant glass provide a great option when designing in locations that endure hurricane-force winds or where additional security or noise reduction is desired. Architect Series aluminum-clad wood sliding, out-swing patio doors and Pella 350 Series Vinyl Sliding Doors meet impact-resistant requirements.

Pella commercial entrance doors do not meet impact-resistant requirements.

Notes:
All impact sizes and glass types are certified for Wind Zone 3, Large Missile Rating D. Not approved for use in Miami-Dade County.

Pella windows and doors with HurricaneShield® impact-resistant glass resist water infiltration in winds up to 55 - 67 mph. Glass will resist wind speeds up to 184 mph.

Pella's HurricaneShield® impact-resistant insulating glass is made up of a sheet of tempered glass combined with a sheet of laminated glass. For best performance, the laminated glass may be the interior or exterior pane of insulating glass, depending on the product. It can withstand an impact equivalent to that of a two-by-four traveling at 50 feet per second.

Contact Pella

Being on the coast in a hurricane-prone region, Anson House's large window and door openings presented a challenge in meeting code requirements for wind and impact resistance. Pella met this challenge with HurricaneShield® impact-resistant glass and structural reinforcing mullions between the window, door and transom units. Visit the Project Gallery to view additional case studies that meet impact-resistant requirements.
